Tropical Bridal // Styled shoot by Cactus Coral

When we were approached by Madi of CactusCoral, who has recently put together a styled bridal shoot, we jumped at the chance to share it with all our alternative brides.

CactusCoral is the first Beauty, Fashion and Bridal Digizine. Run by Madi Hill a 25 year old Contemporary Art graduate, she brings together talented creative professionals and creates an environment for them to showcase and develop their medium based on a brief from CactusCoral. She works with Artists, Photographers, Hair Stylists, Bloggers, MUA's, Venues and Designers to create high quality contemporary content and ideas. She combines this work with documentation of her own style, her latest fashion and beauty favourites and a behind the scenes look at the Bridal industry.

Madi says "The inspiration for the 'Tropics' photo shoot came from 2 years of assisting on shoots and catwalks and getting frustrated at seeing the same vintage, pretty, romantic way of styling Bridal. I found myself making suggestions to people who, don't get me wrong I respect wholly and truly, but that didn't share my passion for contemporary, creative vibrance and the role that contemporary art can play when styling your own wedding, a catwalk or a photo shoot. There are a ton of Brides that love a more traditional wedding and I'm not saying that that's a bad thing I just saw a niche for something new and different."

As you can tell, Madi shares our view and outlook on Bridal shoots and offering up some ideas to brides that are a bit different to what is currently 'on-trend'. We love how fresh the styling is on this shoot.

"The visual language of an artist, not only provokes important questions within national and international culture, but forms an exciting visual backdrop that catches the human eye and mind, which in turn of course, becomes a strong place for sales & promotion. I feel that there is a place for art and artists in the industry of Beauty, Fashion & Bridal styling, so I'm doing it!"

"I hope that my work for CactusCoral will inspire the internet community of fashion conscious people. We are leading increasingly visual lives through the internet and I love how it encourages visual creativity within us all. I am merely applying it to the things that I love and encourage others to do the same!"

Dresses were lent by Enzoani ℅ Butterfly Bridal Boutique in Bicester, Oxfordshire. Jewellery by Georg Jensen and Poppy DandiyaModelled by Alumni Miss Teen Queen winner Chloe Selenda Hill and top UK Fashion Blogger, Kavita Donkersley Khan from She Wears Fashion. The shoot took place at the OVADA warehouse in OxfordThe sets, dotted with floral displays by Stems of Marsh Gibbon were built by Artist Lewk Wilmshurst and photographed by his talented cousin, Hannah Wilmshurst. The dramatic hair was created by session stylist Victoria Pickup whilst Madi took care of the Make-up and styling.

WOW!! What a Night! // Weird and Wonderful Wedding World Success!

Ali and I would like to start by saying a HUGE thank you to everyone involved in our Weird and Wonderful journey, from start to finish. Sarah from the events team at At-Bristol has been amazing, we can't thank her enough for her amazing 'can-do' attitude and unending enthusiasm - nothing we asked for phased her and she made the whole event so much easier to organise. We wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you to At-Bristol for giving us the opportunity to hold the Weird & Wonderful Wedding World Show. It's such an amazing venue and we heard great comments about it from the visitors.

Thank you to all the suppliers who believed in our vision and supported us along the way and came along, to join in the fun and to show off your Weird and Wonderful Wedding services, you were all amazing and really brought our vision together!  No matter how much organisation and planning you do, without fabulous exhibitors it all falls apart.

Thanks to all you Weird and Wonderful brides and grooms, that were curious enough to join us in our mission to shake up your wedding planning!  We hope you went to the stars and back in our planetarium wedding catwalk, soared around the galaxy in the science exhibits throughout the centre, and indulged in the madness on the top floor!?

Thank you to all the gorgeous hair and make up artists involved on the day, as always, a pleasure to have around, you guys totally rocked our Day of the Dead show stealer!

One last thank you.. To Laura. Laura Michelle Photography (soon to be Laura Power but sssshhh more on that later!) We were going to go on about how fabulous she is, and what a brilliant photographer she is, and how amazing she was during the photo shoot and how awesome she was helping us set up all day, and then still taking loads of photos all night whilst showing off her gorgeous art installation, come wedding exhibition stand, like no other...... But then we thought, what the hell... her photos do the talking!!!

Take a look at these beauties and tell me you don't want her at your wedding because she's the awesomest person in the world!!

(P.S when you have finished being totally in awe of these photos theres a bit of business to attend to at the bottom!)

Illuminarium Special Effects and Fire Art

Ted Chiswell Jones
Illuminarium Ltd
Special Effects & Fire Art
078830 42133

Illuminarium is showcasing four of our beautiful gas powered flambeaux torches, on the terrace area of @Bristol for the duration of the alternative wedding show. Real flame illumination creates a magical atmosphere that electric light just cannot emulate. The flambeaux can be placed outdoors as markers for entrances or pathways, creating a  warm welcome for your guests. I have been working with fire and pyrotechnics for the past 14 years during which time it became apparent that many venues had problems with fireworks due to the noise and mess.

Many couples still want to be able to use fire as a celebratory element on their wedding day. The use of gas flames is a cleaner and quieter alternative to fireworks and has a multitude of interesting applications. I received a request to customise a green goddess fire engine with impressive 4m flame throwers, which my wife Kathryn and I used as our wedding car!

In 2010, I set up a special effects company, Illuminarium Ltd which has £5m public liability insurance cover to showcase our work and enable us to provide fire effects to venues that normally don’t allow fireworks or fire. In that time I have been working in collaboration with other artists and have gone on to create many unique, spectacular fire sculptures and performances for weddings and events around the country.

Illuminarium has provided confetti effects, pyrotechnics, fire poi performances, and created an unorthodox way for the bride and groom to ignite ceremonial bonfires and burn barrels with the ‘Illuminator’.

We have ‘off the shelf’ effects to hire from as little as a few hundred pounds, which includes insurance and operator or we can create your own completely bespoke effect.

We build unique sculptures, can light your names in fire or build fire pits and burn barrels to commemorate your special day.

Stop by for a chat and tell us your idea to make your wedding truly unforgettable.
